I personally tend to favour SSuite Office’s free office suites. Their software also don’t need to run on Java or .NET, like so many open source office suites, so it makes their software very small and efficient.

OpenOffice.org is needed JRE (Java Runtime Environmental). And indeed there is a long delay when going to open this application. However, look at the features on offer and a free license, OpenOffice.org is an alternative software that we use to replace Ms.Office.
About SSuite, I myself did not know about the software. Seeing the small size and does not require a JRE or. NET is very interesting to try.
